In the end, the authorities advised the organisers of the race to cancel but instead they decided to change venue to Capenwray (a quarry used for diving in Kirby Lonsdale). Sarah and I didn’t want to swim round in circles in a quarry we wanted to swim in a lake so we took it upon ourselves to swim the width of Windermere (2km and its widest) with the help of her Dad as our safety boat and official photographer. He took us across the lake were we then jumped in and swam back. It was pouring down with rain, very dark and very cold. It was the second time I completed the swim and I finished in 22 minutes exactly, which was 2 minutes faster than last year's attempt.
