What can I say, it was an experience I’ll never forget and ready to do it again.
In the end, the authorities advised the organisers of the race to cancel but instead they decided to change venue to Capenwray (a quarry used for diving in Kirby Lonsdale). Sarah and I didn’t want to swim round in circles in a quarry we wanted to swim in a lake so we took it upon ourselves to swim the width of Windermere (2km and its widest) with the help of her Dad as our safety boat and official photographer. He took us across the lake were we then jumped in and swam back. It was pouring down with rain, very dark and very cold.
As you can see Iona and Jessica wanted to share the experience once we got across. Photos

Thank to Jacky & Margaret for counting the swimmers doing there lengths today, at the later pool events Jacky managed to track down Ryan Bennett now a member of the UK Olympic swimming team, he has said he will visit hid first Club (That's us!!!) hopefully before summer, how good is that.

Thank you to all who turned up today for the sponsored swim, 800 lengths over 18,000 metres swam in 60 minutes, Liz Frost, John Wignall & Mathew Monks did 100 lengths within the time. Laura Rae, Heidi Bray, Hannah Bray, Caroline MacPhee, Iona MacPhee, Deanne Wilde, Jessica Wilson all completed a mile, Christopher Dearden did 40 lengths. Well done to them all, please sponsor generously.

Pool 100 year Anniversary, we are celebrating this with Active Nation, the council & others on June 25th, we need individuals & teams to swim 100 lengths on this day, come in dress associated with the period if 1911, come up with ideas, we will also carry out events on our club nights of the preceding week, your ideas are most welcome. The actual 100 year anniversary date is on the 22nd June 2011.

Presentation Night May 21st, Hoghton Village Hall commencing 7pm, a brief AGM will be followed by the presentation of medals & trophies for th gala & Freddo races. Please come along and support the children and the club. Tickets £5 per adult & £4 per child, hot pot supper and fruit pie will b served, adults bring their own drink, childrens drinks and treats are free. SIKA Disco & childrens bingo with raffle will follow. Please join us, we really need all the support we can get.

Brinscall Pool celebrates it's 100 year anniversary on 22nd June 2011, we will run special events to celebrate at the club on Monday 20th & Frday 24th June 2011, we will also be involved with Chorley Council & Active Nation on Saturday 25th June 2011 to celebrate the Centenary of the pool, relays teams & individuals will swim 100 lengths of the pool etc.
