The 18th running of the highly popular Sweatshop Park Series of races, organised by Chorley AC, got of to a flying start in race 1 with Chorley based Horwich Harrier, James Kevan completely outclassing the field to storm home in 16 mins 22 secs for the 5K multi terrain course in Astley Park,Chorley. Second place home was former International Eddie Simpson, vet 40 Dallam Running Club, returning from injury to clock 17:02 and one second adrift in third Horwich's Marin Bell. Host team Junior, Luke Betts moving up a distance to lead home local club runners in 6th place on 17:49. First female home was Wigan Phoenix's Tracy Dutton, vet 35 to finish on 20:11, with Joan Howe, vet 55 Trafford AC 2nd in 22:09. At the beginning of the series, Horwich Harriers have taken the lead in the team event.

In the Junior 1 mile multi terrain event Adam Howart, Leigh Harriers edged out by 1 second Ryan Sciacca, Chorley AC to clock 5 mins 23 secs. The Chorley AC team of Ryan, Adam Sciacca, Fergus Tallon and Ben Ramsay packed well to place 2nd to 5th to give them a commanding lead at the start of the team grand prix. with 28 seconds covering all of their finish positions. 1st female home was Blackburn Harrier Elizabeth Greenwood dipping under 6 minutes, closely followed by Shara Edgar, Chorley Harriers and Lauren Deane of Southport and Waterloo.

In Chorley AC's second Park race James Kevan of Horwich won again effortlessly from club mate and former winner Gareth Booth in 2nd place. Luke Betts in 5th place scored for the home club winning the junior title and being only 7 secs off the junior record. In the ladies Wigan Phoenix also gained a 1 & 2 with Tracy Dutton winning again from her compatriot Rachael Moore. Another excellent junior performance was Preston's Nichola Jackson as 3rd lady. Horwich won the team race ahead of a 2 point tussle with Blackburn Harriers just beating Southport Waterloo. Phil Iddon(11th) was the best placed Chorley Harrier ahead of Dan Edwards(48th) and Daryl Peter(74th) who was 1st FVet50. Other Chorley AC athletes had Paul Wareing(24th) beating Dave Taylor(29th) and Ian Walker(53rd). Jonathan Betts(65th) just kept ahead of Steven Wilde(71st) and new girl Marie Kinloch(75th) had to make a desperate last minute lunge to beat fast closing Phil McCullagh(76th) by 2 secs with Les Paul(79th) close behind.

The juniors race almost exactly replicated April's race with Adam Howarth of Leigh winning again by a slim margin of 5 secs from Ryan Sciacca of Chorley AC followed speedily by home club members Adam Sciacca(3rd), Fergus Tallon(4th), Ben Ramsay(5th) and Joe Ellison(7th) securing the team race. Next came the girls winner Blackburn star Elizabeth Greenwood(8th) at only 11 yrs old mixing it with those 3 & 4 years older. Michael McKay was the first Chorley Harrier home heading a good contingent of runners including 1st G15 Lea Nelson(17th), 1st G9 Katie Hebblethwaite(24th) and B10 winner Oliver Bannister(32nd). Chorley AC also had Danny Betts(14th) not having run for awhile with a good effort, Ben Hughes(23rd) as first 8 yr old and Anya Townsend(28th). Elizabeth Greenwood set another best time lowering her own G11 record by 7 secs and it was near misses for Ben Hughes(B8) by 2secs, Fergus Tallon(B13) 3secs and winner Adam Howarth(B15) 5secs ; try again in race 3 on 25th June.

Held in hot and humid conditions the 5K (approx) multi terrain senior race 3 saw a superb run by host club Chorley Athletic Club junior Luke Betts to devastate the filed and win by over 36 seconds. Preston Harrier vet 40 Dave Watson finishing in second place was also the only other runner to finish under 19 mins in the stamina sapping conditions. Chorley Harrier Phil Iddon finished third with vet 40 Mark Almond just behind.

First lady home with a superb run was Tracy Dutton of Wigan Phoenix followed by Wesham pair of Sarah Sherratt and Michaela Dempsey. Other notable performances were Evan Cook vet 55 Blackburn Harriers in 20:47 and vet 70 Neville Jones of Warrington AC.

In the Junior Park Multi terrain Race over 1 mile Adam Howarth, Leigh Harriers consolidated his position at the top of the leader board with another first and Ryan Adam, Fergus Tallon and Ben Ramsay of Chorley AC all bar accidents will finish first team. Once again Blackburn Harrier Elizabeth greenwood devastated the filed to finish first female and 6th overall.

The final 5 K+ multi terrain and deciding race for overall positions took place in very hot and humid conditions at Astley Park, Chorley on Friday 2 July. Richard Howarth, Horwich mastered the conditions better than anyone and secured a sub 17 minutes finish clocking 16:55 with Tri Clan's Lee Cook securing 2nd place again in a local race. Chorley runner Gareth Booth running for Horwich completed the trio of leading runners having led for a period of time in the first half of the race. Local bragging rites went to Chorley Harriers Keith Johnston who pipped Chorley AC junior Luke Betts by just 1 second to hold onto 4th place. Chorley AC Paul Wareing just failed again to get under the magic 20mins but placed well at 12. Not far behind was Dave Taylor and Ian Walker, followed by Steve Wilde, Phil McCullagh, Derek Wheeldon (running his first race) and Les Paul.

Wigan Phoenix's Tracey Dutton again showed her class to finish first female in 20:21 with Wesham's Sarah Sherratt next followed by Michelle Devine of Horwich. Improving Chorley AC athlete Marie Kinloch finished a comfortable 6th.Final series positions will be announced early in Autumn.

In the very hotly contested junior race held over a tough 1 mile multi terrain course Chorley AC's athletes who had already secured the team title dominated the first six places! Brothers Ryan and Adam Sciacca of the hosts Chorley AC produced outstanding runs to clock 5:18 and 5:21 respectively to finish ahead of series leader Adam Howarth of Leigh Harriers. Chorley AC team mates Fergus Tallon, Ben Ramsay and Joseph Ellison packed well to finish next. Once again Blackburn Harrier Elizabeth Greenwood finished well ahead of the other female runners. All the above runners are going to finish in the overall leading places. Other Chorley AC runners included M12 Jack Cowell and M8 Harry Collins. As with the seniors final overall results will be announced in the Autumn.
