5K Multi Terrain Race
In only what can be described as a valiant attempt to break the course record held since 1994, Rick Hayman, Sale Harriers produced one of the top performances of the season to finish in 15 mins 55 secs.
This tremendous run was a “magnificent seven seconds” short of equalling the record, but the hot and humid conditions made it difficult for most other runners to get anywhere near it.

The second of the On the Run Park Series organised by Chorley Athletic Club took place in muggy conditions on Friday 19 May at Astley Park, Chorley.
In the senior 5k multi terrain race a "battle royal" ensued at the front after the half way stage. Whether it was the humidity or just the pace of the race that took it's toll on series leader Rick Hayman, Sale Harriers, no-one other than Rick will know. On the first lap he led by a good three metres, but was overtaken through the woods for the second lap by previous series winner Neil Tattersall, Pendle, who finished the stronger of the front three in a time of 16 mins 7 secs. Tom Cornthwaite, Blackburn Harriers ran a very tactical race to finish second, but was only three seconds adrift of the leader at the finish. This was one of the most hotly contested of the races this year!
Local interest surrounded the duel between two juniors, Andrew Holmes of the host club Chorley AC, and Richard Yates, Chorley Harriers. Andrew ran a very tactical race shadowing Richard for the first lap, and then pulling away to create a winning margin of 26 seconds finishing 13th overall and first Chorley athlete home.

Andrew Holmes
Sarah Dugdale, Skipton AC, had an excellent run to finish first woman and 28 the overall.
