6th December 2009 Marl Pits, Rossendale
Results
The final Red Rose Cross-Country fixture of 2009/10 was at Marl Pits, Rossendale where runners faced the expected knee deep mud. In the U13s Fergus Tallon was made to work very hard but could not overcome one opponent and had to settle for second. In the U15s a marshalling error meant a foreshortened course missing out the steepest elements which are the forte of the two Chorley AC lads Adam Sciacca and Joe Ellison with the result that they found themselves only 15th and 21st respectively and not higher up as expected. Misfortune was also suffered by Luke Betts in the U17s as he was in a comfortable 2nd place when he became sick at the summit and although struggling on lost places to finish 11th. The senior race was one of constant falls in the mud at which Paul Wareing excelled(4 times !) to finish 71st but this allowed Rick Cordwell to take advantage to nip through for the second week in a row (must be his new shoes !) to 65th with his best run to date. David Taylor tried hard to close the gap finishing 80th with mate Ian Walker chasing him into 92nd. Phil McCullagh had Mike Coppin on his back for the first part of the race but a fall and a lost shoe by Mike stretched the gap for them to finish 108th & 109th. Poor Eddie Murray had to be pulled up with a chest problem just after the start. The CAC team finished 8th overall with the vets 11th. Mike was 2nd vet65.
21st November 2009 Leverhulme Park, Bolton
Results
In ground conditions perhaps better than expected in showers but with a peculiarly warm wind Chorley AC took part in the 3rd Red Rose Cross-Country running event of 2009 at Leverhulme Park, Bolton and started with an excellent 1st place by talented youngster Fergus Tallon in the U13 boys where he dominated the race from the start. AC were a couple of competitors light in the U15s where Ryan Sciacca in 11th returned to his normal ascendency over brother Adam in 17th. Luke Betts again had a very well controlled race in 3rd place in the U17s outpacing the whole ladies field by 2 mins. The course was suited to Simon Townsend who again had an excellent run finishing 77th in the mens field chased by Paul Wareing in 86th and a slightly under the weather David Taylor in 119th. Henry Minorczyk was 6th vet60 slowly working his way through the field to 127th place with Rick Cordwell hanging onto him in 131st despite blisters from his new shoes. Barry Chester was 153rd and it was good to see Eddie Murray completing in 161st back after disastrously missing the start of his last race when sitting in the dressing room. Phil McCullagh was not far behind in 164th with the field being rounded up by Mike Coppin in 167th. Eddie & Mike were 3rd & 4th vet65s. Chorley AC were 13th team overall and 14th vet team.
7th November 2009 Chesham Park, Bury
Results
The second Red Rose Cross-Country race took place on a very rain sodden Chesham Park, Bury with a hardy group of Chorley AC athletes braving the elements!
The highlight of the day was a very controlled run by Luke Betts in the U17s where, despite being one of the youngest competitors, he came 4th just failing to take 3rd by 1sec. In the U15s Adam Sciacca, took full advantage of the difficult slippery conditions to finish ahead of brother Ryan. Adam finished 11th place to Ryan's 15th - both running well in a very large field.
In the seniors Paul Wareing was 89th with David Taylor getting ever closer in 97th. Rick Cordwell's second run this year went better for him in 133rd but he was just pipped by Henry Minorczyk in 131st. Barry Chester finished 159th with Phil McCullagh 168th and Mike Coppin 170th. Chorley AC were the 13th team and 14th vet team. Henry was 4th vet 60 with Barry 6th and Mike being 5th vet 65.

Overall 12th team and 12th vets team with Henry Minorczyk and Barry Chester achieving 2nd & 4th vet60s respectively and Mike Coppin securing 1st vet65.
