Marls Pits, Rossendale has a reputation for being a course only for those who can brave copious amounts of mud - this year was no different!

The Under 11 junior section of Chorley AC is now very competitive where Daniel Bebbington led his team mates home in 4th place, followed by Ben Whipp coming 14th in his very first race, one place ahead of James Field.

In the girls Under 11 race, Lucy Croston had an excellent run to come 13th. However, the performance of the day cam from Ruth Whipp who finished 18th despite having an acute ear infection.

The under 17's race saw highly rated Andrew Holmes struggle in the heavy mud to finish 21st in 24 mins 11 secs.

Two senior male athletes took part with Mike Coppin finishing the by now extremely difficult course. Mike finished 143rd despite being attached to one of the many bramble bushes for over 3 mins!

Overall Mike Coppin was third vet 60 in the league. Chorley AC would like to congratulate all who took part in the league this year, and look forward to building on this year's successes."

In the under 11 girls Lucy Croston took her coach's advice of care through the mud and tree roots but with a strong finishing surge was 5th girl home.

The ladies saw Janet Pound also running with care into 57th position in 28:47 being 3rd in her age category. Captain Barry Chester fell in the mud when arriving for the race, and his day did not improve coming 121st and 11th vet 55 in 56:11 not far in front of Mike Coppin 126th(64:43) as 4th vet 60.

The club are at the National Reebok Cross Country next week at Sefton Park Liverpool for the next Mid Lancs. race(separate nos will be issued at the Park and the times are earlier than normal so please check !)....hope to see as many AC athletes there as possible?"On a horrible day there was a small turnout of very hardy Chorley AC athletes for the Red Rose Cross Country fixture at Hyndburn at the weekend.
