The North of England Cross Country Championships were held at Sherdley Park, St.Helens this weekend on an undulating course with extreme mud that attemped to pull your shoes off with every step. From Chorley Athletic Club Lucy Croston did well in pushing her light frame onwards in the U13s to 137th place(15:30). In the U15s the conditions were all too much for Michael Murray who retired with leg cramps but our Lancashire County selectee Luke Betts ran brilliantly into 57th(13:08) matched by Ryan Sciacca in 93rd(13:41). U17 Tom Booth managed a solid run in 157th(25:43). In the senior men Paul Wareing 424th(50:12) led a hard fought contest between Paul Bass 438th(50:41) and David Taylor 441st(50:51) whilst Michael Murray 584th(61:06), Eddie Murray 593rd(64:56), Phil McCullagh 599th(68:11) and Mike Coppin 604th(78:33) just kept their heads down and ploughed through the mud as best they could. Their efforts, despite all being veterans, took Chorley AC into 27th Club position overall.
