After the immensely muddy Lancashire cross-country courses of the last month or so it was confusing for the Chorley athletes to be met by a 'bowling green' of a Yorkshire course at Roundhay Park, Leeds for the 2008 North of England XC Championships with not a speck of mud it was a course for fast men. It was a lovely afternoon despite the strong breeze with a Chorley AC team come to compete against over 2000 other competitors.

Lucy Croston saw us under way in the U13s and had the best Chorley effort of the day being 167th(14:19) with the hill leaving a big impression on young Lucy. In the U15s Luke Betts was 169th(14:58) with our third best effort followed by Michael Murray 192nd(17:16). Charlotte Murray caught in the loo at the start of her race was 97th(25:57) in the U17s with sister Jeanette Murray 50th(34:36) in the U20s.

The men were headed by Paul Wareing 530th(55:53) with Chorley's second best result of the day supported by Barry Chester 625th(61:32), Michael Murray 650th(66:17), Stuart Swann 662nd(74:17) and Mike Coppin 665th(81:59). Poor Eddie Murray had an asthma attack and sensibly dropped out when Mike Coppin flashed passed him and this left Chorley a member short for a team finish.
