Chorley Athletic Club hosted the first North of England Track & Field meeting at Witton Park, Blackburn.
Chorley AC had a very promising start but only managed to finish in 5th position overall.
However, Chorley had some outstanding individual performances culminating in 7 first places and 2 seconds, with a good response from the male athletes who competed in all the events except the 110m hurdles.
The depleted ladies team with only 3 athletes, and only 2 when Jade Brown pulled a hamstring, were very much under strength yet had outstanding quality with Eloise Manger winning both the hammer & javelin and 2nd in the shot putt with Jodie Farnworth supporting with a 1st & 2nd in the high & long jumps. Jade Brown was 5th in the 100m.
For the men Michael Hough was majestic in winning both the 100m and long jump, John Wright stamped his authority on the 200m and Luke Betts was imposing in his 1500m win. Ryan Sciacca secured two PBs in both the 400 & 800m as did Luke Betts in the 800m. Adam Sciacca won the 'B' race 1500m and Graeme Ballard was 3rd & 5th in the 100 & 200m despite being in pain.
Rick Cordwell and Stephen Deignan were the busiest men racing round collecting points in the 400m, 400m hurdles, triple & high jumps plus the discus, javelin, shot putt & long jump respectively.
Others athletes taking part in their first T&F meeting to support CAC and help win valuable points included Phil McCullagh(discus/shot putt), 5000m(Henry Minorczyk & Stephen Wilde), Marco Sciacca(javelin) and Mike Coppin(hammer).
Thanks for the success of the meeting must go to Pat Keene(Controller), officials Francis & Kath Crook, Stuart Swann, Alan Morris, Alison Wright & Jan Mayor plus the computer wizards Terry Dickenson & Simon Townsend

Two recent recruits gave Chorley AC a very useful boost in the Northern Track & Field match at Cleckheaton with Ian Gouldthorpe jumping to 2nd in the long jump(5.35) and 3rd in the triple jump(11.07) and Dale Nuttall 4th(12.6) & 6th(25.9) in the 100/200m and 1st in the 'B' long jump(5.09).
Paralympian Graham Ballard produced an excellent performance for 6th(12.9) and 5th(25.6) in the 100/200m.
Coach Stuart Swann deliberately switched Adam & Ryan Sciacca in their preferences for longer and shorter races with Adam running the 400m & 800m in which he was 5th(60.1) and 3rd(2:12 a PB) with Ryan taking the 1500m but in a tremendous finish just losing 2nd place(4:35). Dad Marco Sciacca was 3rd in the 800m 'B' race and recorded a javelin PB in 6th(22.78) with Mike Coppin being 6th in the shot putt(4.56).

With many away for school holidays, the 4th North of England athletics meeting in Oldham struggled a little for competitors and officials.
However, Chorley AC did manage some excellent results, starting with first place for Jodie Farnworth in Long Jump, plus a fine run in the 100m. Michael Hough took first place in the Long Jump, followed by Ian Gouldthorpe who took second, plus an excellent win in the Triple Jump. Vet international sprinter John Wright took 1st place in the 100m with a time of 11.6s, and the club’s results were assisted by Graeme Ballard, Michael Hough, Michael Churm across 100m, 200m and 400m, plus a 4th place in the sprint relay. Valuable points were also gained by John Wright and Ian Walker in the Shot, and Ian and David Taylor threw well in a competitive Javelin event. David Taylor and Ian Walker performed well in the 5000m and 1500m respectively.
