A review of all the 2007 fell race action shows how Chorley town athletes have featured prominently over the year. Chorley AC did not compete a lot on the fells during this year with the exception of two of our young men who made a serious challenge for the English under 23 title resulting in a fantastic 2nd place for Nathan Lawton(66pts) and 5th place for Sam Hewison(61pts). The winner was James Kevan(77pts) another Chorley resident (who runs for Horwich) and Nathan might have been closer if he had obtained entry to all the races(some were full and closed well before the set dates) and Sam whose Army duties caused him to miss some races. Although their objective was the English championship many of these races also counted in the British Championship resulting in Nathan coming 12th and Sam 13th. Marvellous for Chorley to score a 1-2-3 in the English under 23 Championships.
Congratulations must also go to ex-Chorley AC athlete Jan Atkins (now running for Chorley Harriers) who was 2nd lady vet 60 and 5th lady vet 55 in these same English Championships and who was very consistent throughout the year turning out at least 20 prize winning performances. Jan was well supported by other Harriers of whom Lyn Clough and Pete Gillham also won many prizes plus some class performances from John Sutton and Dominic Raby with also mentions and prizes for Anna Crabtree, Sara Parkinson, Nicki Fellowes, Nichola Raby, Nikki Rushton, Marie Dewhurst and John Richards. Chorley can boast a good range and depth of athletes in this difficult athletic discipline. |
