In the World Race Walking Championships over 20K, Chorley Athletic Club's John Payn provided the inspiration to the GB team and helped them secure that once illusive Gold Medal!

The championship held over a 10 lap 2K course in the Italian town of Ricione was held in extremely hot conditions. Vet 70, John was third counter for the GB team and finished the flat fast course in 2hrs 20 mins. The GB masters team beat the USA,Germany and Australia to come away with the Gold Medal.

The was an outstanding performance by an outstanding athlete to provide Chorley with another World Gold. Chorley Athletic Club are delighted that club chairman, John has achieved such a memorable honour for the town.
