10th European Masters Race Walking Championships -
30 Km Race Non Stadia, Regensburg, Germany
(20 May 2007)
Chorley AC much travelled Chairman, John Payn, outclassed many in the field to take European Silver in temperatures way above 85 degree Fahrenheit. In these hot and humid condition even the pre race favourite, Gerhart Weidner, a Silver Olympic medallist in Mexico, found the conditions extremely tough and collapsed with exhaustion just 10 metres from the finish line. This makes John success even more remarkable. John's time for the 30K was 3 hours 45 mins 19 secs making him second and silver medallist and 5th overall in all age categories. Given these conditions this was a truly brilliant performance.
