Season Summary
The Cross Country season for 2008/09 was wound up with the Mid Lancs. presentations at Bamber Bridge and Chorley AC athletes featured in the all categories , where 3520 competed throughout the season with an average of 587 runners per race. The team event brought many accolades and rewards, where Chorley AC won silver medals and promotion to Division 2, which is promotion for two successive years, and demonstrates the strength in depth of the club. After leading for most of the season in most categories, the club was just bettered by Garstang on the 'discard' rule whereby the worst two results are "ditched". It was even more bitter for the vet 40 team who again had led all season but were dropped to 3rd position by the discards of Horwich and Accrington. However the vet 60s , also achieved silver medal status where they had been second to Clayton-le-Moors all season. The Chorley 'B' team came 11th in Division 4 and the vet 50s also 11th overall. Chorley medallists were :- Paul Wareing, Simon Townsend, Paul Bass, David Taylor, Jim Cosgrove, Barry Chester, Henry Minorczyk and Roy Paul. Henry Minorczyk also led the vet 60s gaining another silver medal along with Eddie Murray and John Swift. The valiant vet 40s who were just pushed into 3rd place were Paul Wareing, Simon Townsend, David Taylor, Jim Cosgrove and Roy Paul.

A small band of Chorley AC athletes turned out for the Mid Lancs.. Cross Country a tBlackpool’s Stanley Park on a foul winter's day. Fortunately the rain kept the mud ‘squiggy’ rather than ‘clinggy’ which made things much easier than they could have been!

Club spirits were lifted by a magnificent U15 boys performance with Luke Betts 6th(14:48) being the best Chorley run of the day ably backed by Ryan Sciacca 20th(16:13) and Michael Murray 32nd(18:50). In the men's race Paul Wareing 70th(41:40) spearheaded efforts with David Taylor 110th(44:52) chased by Jim Cosgrove 116th(45:45). Michael Murray Snr improved his result to 139th(50:02) getting in front of captain Barry Chester 147th(51:20). Mike Coppin rounded off proceedings in 159th(65:27). Chorley’s AC's 3rd place in the Vet 40s and 2nd place in the vet 60s is maintained but club athletes are asked to compete in the next cross country to ensure the club can consolidate or improve on these positions, senior men also improved to 9th in the vet 50s.

17/1/2009 Worden Park, Leyland

Results

At Leyland pressure was on the Senior athletes to maintain their top position in Division 3 which they did with 6 points while the 'B' team also picked up a point in Division 4. Roy Paul proved that his excellent 3rd vet55 place in the Lancs Championships last weekend was no fluke by being the first home runner back in 120th(44:50) ahead of Simon Townsend 129th(45:18), Paul Wareing 133rd(45:46), Paul Bass 150th(46:50) and David Taylor 153rd(47:02). Next home was Henry Minorczyk 196th(52:06), Michael Murray 215th(54:58) and back from holidaying in the sun Eddie Murray 222nd(56:54). Lancashire vet60 champion Barry Chester 224th(57:20) lead home John Swift 232nd(62:25), Phil McCullagh 236th(64:36), Les Paul 238th(66:16) and Mike Coppin 240th(69:48). In a massive field Chorley's highest placed individual was Henry as 8th vet60 which helped the vet60 team to maintain its 2nd place but a big effort from all 13 athletes gave us 19th & 25th tam places overall, 16th & 24th in the vet40s and 11th & 19th in the vet50s.

14/2/2009 Wilson Playing Fields, Hynburn

Results

Chorley AC put in an excellent team performance at the Hyndburn Cross-Country. On a less muddy course than usual, they ensured the club retained their lead in Division 3 by 2 points, with the vet 40 and vet 60 teams in second places in their leagues and the vet 50s slightly off the pace in 10th place! With all the juniors being away on school half-term it was up to the seniors to produce strong performances.

Paul Wareing reasserted himself strongly back into the club rankings in 102nd place(42:05) outrunning Roy Paul in 117th place (43:17) and Paul Bass 120th(43:23), Simon Townsend 128th(43:45) and David Taylor 129th(43:50) who is really coming back to fitness. Henry Minorczyk 179th(48:31) lead the senior vets home with Michael Murray 196th(51:29), Eddie Murray 208th(54:42), Stuart Swann 219th(59:51) in his first outing this year, then Mike Coppin 223rd(64:11) delighted to regain a glimmer of form and finish ahead of long term friend Les Paul 225th(66:56) for the first time this year. unfortunately Phil McCullagh was a victim of the tree roots, twisting an ankle which denied CAc a second overall team finish to support their overall 17th place, with the vet40s in 13th & 22nd, the vet50s 11th & 16th and the vet 60s 3rd places. Henry Minorczyk again turned in the best individual performance as 6th vet 60.
