Saturday turned out as a beautiful day for the final Cross Country race of the 2007/08 season, and despite the increasingly strong wind ,the ground conditions at Witton Park, Blackburn were excellent. In the U13's girls race Lucy Croston 35th (15 mins:00 secs) and Rhiann Beaumont 41st (15:33) found the going tough but battled on against the gale force wind . In the U13's boys Daniel Gratton finished 39th (15:31) and Daniel Bebbington put in another fine race to finish 17th in the U15's (12:37). The ladies squad had Jeanette Murray finishing 63rd (33:34) running a superb race and well supported by Janet Pound 67th(35:46).

The senior men were once again lead home by vet 55 Stephe Fletcher finishing 128th (51:58) with a gap to vet 65 John Swift 143rd (54:34), cross country captain, Barry Chester 158th (58:14) and Michael Murray 159th(58:18). A good team effort in 17th place overall with 2 vet 40 teams in 21st & 24th, 3 vet 50 teams in 12th, 15th & 17th and the vet 60s being 2nd equal team. The morning drizzle stopped to present a reasonable afternoon for Cross Country running despite the cold wind at the Mid Lancs meeting at Sefton Park Liverpool. Lucy Croston dashed to 35th place(13:51) in the U13s followed by two good runs from Luke Betts 28th(11:31) and Jordan Hampson 41st(12:59) in the U15s.

This Reebok Challenge doubles as an English team selection race and it was good to see that these juniors were not vastly outrun by the best in the country. Janet Pound came 50th(47:53) in the ladies and the men were lead home by Stephen Fletcher 111th(43:52) followed by Barry Chester 142nd(48:07), John Swift 145th(48:36), Henry Minorczyk 155th(51:04), Eddie Murray 156th(51:27) and Mike Coppin 170th(66:11) who really was as knackered as he looks in his photo(No.117) on the Mid Lancs website. Paul Wareing also ran but having no time to obtain an official number had to run as a guest with Emma Perrin which was a pity as he appeared to be going well and could have improved Chorley AC’s results which were 17th team overall, 19th vet 40 team, 9th & 11th vet 50 teams and a magnificent 1st vet 60 team. Best individual position for the Mid Lancs was John Swift as 5th vet60 and in the Reebok England results were Lucy Croston and Luke Betts both 75th. In the Mid Lance league todate Chorley AC are 5th in their division, 3rd vet40 team, 8th vet50 team and 4th vet60.

Charlotte Murray was 27th(22:02) in the U17s and sister Jeanette gave a very a gutsy performance for 103rd lady(37:00) and 11th junior lady place.

The men's team was headed by Nathan Lawton with the best Club run of the day in 56th(39:30) followed by Stephe Fletcher 161st(45:00), Paul Waering 176th(45:39), Roy Paul 209th(48:37), Michael Murray 215th(49:42), Barry Chester 220th(50:40), John Swift 225th(51:54), Eddie Murray 227th(52:17), Henry Minorczyk 239th(53:58), Phil McCullagh 245th(61:39), Les Paul 250th(64:10) again over taking Mike Coppin 251st(65:18) on the last lap. The men, did really well to post two teams(27th & 31st) for the first time for a few years, and also two vet40 teams(26th & 34th) plus three vet 50 teams(13th, 18th & 23rd) plus a vet 60 team in 4th place.

Overall in the series to date Chorley AC men are 5th in Division 4, 3rd vet 40 team in division 3 and 8th vet 50 and 3rd vet60 teams overall.’
