Saturday 5th February 2011
It was an ideal day for specialist cross country runners as the Chorley Ac juniors turned out to Witton Park, Blackburn to brave the treacherous conditions as they represented their districts to compete at the Lancashire schools cross country.
he day began early with the senior boys as Luke Betts represented South Ribble colleges, finishing 6th and managing to gain a Lancashire team selection despite being bottom of the age group, putting his disappointing race at Sunderland last weekend behind him.
His brother Danny Betts, along with Fergus Tallon represented Chorley schools in the junior boys, Danny finishing a respectable 50th place in his first time representing his district whilst Fergus narrowly missed out on a Lancashire team selection finishing 11th but still marked as a reserve.
We then move on to the Inter boys where the Chorley team which was made up of 4 Chorley Ac athletes tore up the turf, finishing first team of the day.
They were lead by Joe Ellison who pulled out a magnificent run in 9th to just miss out on a Lancashire selection but will still fancy his chances of going as a reserve.
Closely following behind was Ryan Sciacca with arguably his best race of the season in 12th as he gained the upper hand on his brother Adam Sciacca in 18th, both running good races.
Ben Ramsey also ran a determined run to finish 56th backing a good turnout for the Chorley AC team.
There was only one junior girl to run for the club but she didn't disappoint as Anya Townsend in the Inter girls ran a controlled first cross country race finishing 34th, an encouragement to other girls in the club wanting to give it a go.
