The final race in the Chorley night series at Astley Village saw eight Chorley AC athletes competing and bettering their previous times. Young Andrew Holmes finished 30th (3rd Junior) in 23mins 15 secs followed by steadily improving Paul Bass 112th (28:56).
John Swift 132nd (30:47) ran the second lap so quickly he passed a very competitive group of AC runners to finish ahead of Eddie Murray 144th(32:27), John Payn 148th(33:57), Les Paul 150th(34:47), Louise Catterall 151st(34:57) and Mike Coppin 152nd(35:14).
Club chairman John Payn was 1st vet 70, with John Swift 2nd vet 65 and Eddie Murray, Les Paul and Mike Coppin securing 4th,5th & 6th vet 60 places. Chorley AC secured 10th team in the series.
The overall series prizes were also awarded and 15 year old Andrew took 7th place overall and first junior with Johns' Swift & Payn plus Les Paul taking 41st,43rd & 44th respectively.
European gold medallist John Payn also was overall 1st vet 70, John Swift 2nd overall vet 65 and Les Paul 4th overall vet 60. Louise Catterall claimed 12th overall place, a magnificent achievement

Even an exceptionally warm evening with a downpour or two did not sufficiently cool the temperature and meant that only two Chorley Athletic Club athletes Henry Minorczyk and Emma Perrin could improve on their previous race times in the 4 mile night series.
AC junior Andrew Holmes again led home in 33rd place in 23:40 followed by Henry Minorczyk 76th(26:22), Laura Livesey 96th(27:39) and Emma Perrin 107th(28:27).
Long distance eventer John Swift managed 140th(32:56) just ahead of John Payn 145th(33:59).
Louise Catterall 147th(35:07) improved her last race position by over taking Les Paul 149th(35:16) and Mike Coppin in 152nd(35:53).
John Payn was 1st vet 70, with John Swift 2nd vet 65, Laura Livesey and Emma Perrin as 2nd and 3rd junior females.
Overall Chorley Athletic Club were 9th in the men's team category and the 2nd ladies' team."

A very warm evening saw a good turn out of Chorley AC athletes for the Chorley 4 mile race series around Astley Village. The club was lead home in magnificent style in 30th place (22mins 45secs) by the outstanding youngster, Andrew Holmes, who justifiably picked up the first junior prize. Simon Townsend(26:22) was 98th, Laura Livesey 106th(26:56), Henry Minorczyk 110th(27:18) and Emma Perrin finished 128th(28:41) after a blazing first lap. Laura and Emma were 3rd and 4th Junior ladies respectively with John Swift in 138th(29:39) and John Payn 165th(33:55) winning the 2nd Vet 65 and 1st Vet 70 prizes.
A strong run in 170th place(34:53) by Louise Catterall who tried hard but unsuccessfully to run away from the anchor men Les Paul 169th(34:42) and Mike Coppin 172nd(35:22).
The heat had caused slower times all-round this race as runners cautiously paced themselves. Chorley AC were pleased to gain 12th men's team and 4th ladies team positions.
The team coaches were delighted by overall performances.

In the Chorley Harriers 4 mile race, Wednesday 3rd May, Chorley AC
runners produced some very good times for this part of the season.
Andrew Holmes, MJ lead the AC athletes home in 35th place, taking 3rd
junior man, in a time of 23 mins 27 secs.This was an outstanding
performance from this rapidly improving junior athlete.
Henry Minorczyk was 98th, with John Swift placing 2nd vet 65, 148th
overall, followed by club Chairman, John Payn taking 1st over 70 (168th).
Louis Catterall nearly pipped John, but had to settle for 169th, and
Les Paul returning to competition after a serious illness placed 171st,
a very creditable achievement.
