It was a dry but cool night for the first Primary League Track and Field event held at Robin park on Friday 25th May. Thirteen young athletes from Chorley Athletic Club performed impressively against the larger Wigan and Horwich clubs.
In the younger age group, Lewis Henry gathered points in all events, including a good 3rd place in the long jump. Maxine Smith (despite gaining an injury during the long jump) also secured points in all events with a very useful 2nd place in the shot. Leign Jeffrey also claimed a good point in the 75m sprint.
In the older age group, the crowd witnessed some good sprinting from the three Daniels, Daniel Beddington (2nd), Daniel Gratton (4th) and Daniel Jeffrey (6th), and Ben Whipp(7th). More points were gained from a 1st and 3rd by Ben Whipp and Daniel Gratton respectively in the Javellin, and Daniel Gratton and Daniel Jeffrey jumped their way into 2nd and =3rd place in the high jump. Six girls ran well in the 75m sprint, with Beth Henry taking a point. The high jump saw strong point winning performances from Eleanor Polland (=2nd), Alex Mellor(=2nd) and Alice Liddle. Great throwing from Lauren Blackledge and Anya Townsend (rookie) saw them take 1st and 3rd place respectively out of field of nearly 30 athletes.
The evening was rounded off by 4x100 relay races, where Chorley's older boys squad took 1st place, followed by a good performance from the older girls squad.
