On a very warm Saturday, 3 June, Chorley Athletic Club hosted other clubs in the northern region to the latest in the Northern Track and Field League staged at Witton Park Track, Blackburn. The other clubs involved Bradford Airedale, Hyndburn, Pudsey and Bramley, Rochdale and Rossendale praised the high standard of organisation put in by the host club.

In the woman's event the star for Chorley was undoubtedly Kelly Hilton who took the coveted first place in four events: 100 metres (13.6 secs),100 m hurdles (16.9 secs), triple jump (10.63 metres) and 1.60 m in the high jump.

Fellow competitor Emma Perrin took first in 200m B in a time of 30.8 secs and first in 1500m B in 5 mins 44.3 secs, as well as placing 3rd in 400m, 3rd in the discus 12.61m.

Laura Livesey was 3rd 200m, 4th 800m, 3rd 1500m (5mins 9.5 secs), and 3rd in the discus.

Simon Sumner had an excellent run in 200m B placing first in 24.8 secs, with Nathan Lawton holding of a strong challenge from a Rossendale athlete to finish 2nd.

Other results for the men are:
100m A 3rd Simon Sumner (12.2 secs), Michael Chum 100m B 2nd (12.6secs), Graham Ballard 200m A 5th (26 secs), 200m B Michael Chum placed 3rd.
David Hatton finished 5th in 400m, 6th 400m hurdles, 3rd javelin, 3rd long jump and support the relay squad to 4th place.
In the 800m A final Andrew Holmes finished outside his best in 2 mins 12.1 secs, with Chris Chum placing 4th. Steve Proctor finished 2nd in 400m B,5th in 400m hurdles , 4th in the long jump and rounded of his performances with 1st in the javelin.
All the club coaches were delighted with the performances of the athletes on such a hot day.

The match was won by Rossendale, with Pudsey and Bramley next, but only 50 points separated the next three teams. Chorley finished 5th but could easily have taken 3rd such was the fierceness of the competition!
